how do i go about doing a title search in the state of Virginia without a lawyer or reviewing the document?

You should be able to find a wealth of materials online or at your local library describing how one goes about conducting a title search.

You should spend some time studying these materials before you actually begin the search of the title

in the land records of the circuit court in the city or county where the target property is located.
