Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Transfer Deed of House to Wife

I have a house where the deed has only my name listed. I want to transfer the deed to the house to my wife and have myself removed from the deed. Can I just fill out a Quitclaim Deed Form and have it notarized and bring it to the court without having to see a lawyer? I'm not sure of the process but too financially strapped to be paying lawyer fees.

Re: Transfer Deed of House to Wife

Yes, you should be able to convey whatever interest you have in this property to your spouse by means of a properly completed quitclaim deed designed for use in the Commonwealth and which is then properly recorded in the land records of the circuit court in the jurisdiction where the property is located.
