Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia
Trespassing
I am trying to end a year-long relationship due to recent physical abuse. I do not want to press charges for the abuse but would like to keep him off of my property and away from me. The state of Virginia will not issue a protective order unless you press charges. I was told to send a certified letter to the boyfriend stating that he is not allowed on my property or in my home and then if comes on my property he could be charged with trespassing. Is this correct? Is there something else I could do? What should be included in the letter?

Re: Trespassing
Yes, that's correct, but also send him a copy of the certified letter regular mail in case he declines to pick up the certified letter.
