When is a will unenforceable?

Someone was listed as beneficiary upon death of wife and child, but then told the way the will was written voids that demand. Explain?

I would suggest that this someone have an independent attorney who is knowledgeable regarding wills and the law of probate and who has no connection with this will or any of its listed beneficiaries, examine the will and give his or her advisory opinion as to the issue in question.
