Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Use of word Widow in Deed

Can a divorced mother warranty deed of gift to her adult daughter and sign as ''widow'' when she is simply divorced? Why would she sign as widow? The mother also has an adult son still living and two grandchildren that take the place of their deceased father as heirs.
