Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Virginia

termination due to sexual harrasment

I was terminated today due to slapping a coworker's rear. Commission dollars - gone

Benefits - gone

What are my option?

Never any warnings for this or training? Why so harsh? I didn't grope her!

Re: termination due to sexual harrasment

Assuming that you have neither the protection of a contract nor collective bargaining type agreement to protect you from summary termination, I would say that you're without a remedy. Since most companies are by now aware that they can be sued under federal anti-discrimination law for tolerating anything that might be interepreted as sexual harassment in the workplace, they sometimes overreact to even isolated incidents which may not even fit the definition of sexual harassment under the applicable federal statutes and relevant case law which may in fact be what has occured with your situation.
