taxes owed from deceased husband
My husband recently died leaving a tax debt of 10,000. He owes from 1992 to 1998. He had made arrangements with the IRS to pay them in small payments before he died acouple years ago. My question is,am I responsible for his tax debt eventhough he
left me with no financial estate except for a car and a acouple hundred dollars in his account?

Re: taxes owed from deceased husband
The answer is "it depends." Generally spouses are jointly and severally liable for taxes when the spouses filed a joint tax return. What this means is that the IRS has the right to pursue you or your husband for the taxes due. If you filed separately then the IRS can come after any assets that you received from your husband. You will want to re-do your husband's estate tax return to reflect the income taxes that he did/did not owe. I would be glad to discuss these issues.
