Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

Appealing a speeding ticket

I pled not guilty to a speeding ticket but was convicted anyway. However, I am appealing the decision to VA circuit court. I've never gotten a speeding ticket before, have a clean driving record (+5 points) and believe I was pulled over for ''other reasons''. If I request a jury trial but still lose the case, what kinds and amounts of additional court fees and costs can I expect in additional to the speeding ticket fine and courts costs?

Re: Appealing a speeding ticket

On the day scheduled for your de novo trial in the circuit court, a jury pool will have assembled and will be available for your case if you choose to have a jury as your trier of fact (rather than a judge)for your particular case. In the event that you

lose your case(which I regret to report is quite likely), I don't know why you would be assessed additional court costs since the jury pool is there regardless of whether you use them or not. However, you may wish to check the matter out further by calling the clerk's office of the circuit court(criminal division)to determine whether there might be additional court costs assessed in jury trials.

Email me as to what you find out regarding this matter so that it can be shared with others.
