Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
My car got towed from my apartment for having an expired tag. The police did not designate or notify the company for this towing. I don't believe I should have to pay the 150$s to get my car back because they are not a law enforcement official and therefor should not be enforcing the law. I can't go around enforcing the law and taking peoples money, so why should they be allowed to? Is this legal, or should I be able to fight them and get my car back without paying?

So, sue this towing outfit for the return of your personal property
(your car) by way of a warrant in detinue filed in your local general
district court. (However, you might first want to inquire of them as to the
source of their legal authority for the tow.)
