Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

I'm a college student in VA. I've never been in trouble with the law before. I got a ticket for "Reckless Driving- General" under the law section 46.2- 852. I have to go to court. The officer was extremely rude and said I passed on a solid line which isn't true. I strongly feel that what I did wasn't illegal. Just to give an idea with how rude the officer was my brother was in tears and freaking out. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. Please help me!!

Reckless driving is a class 1 criminal misdemeanor in Virginia, so it is important that you address the situation. You have the right to go to court, plead not guilty, and make the officer prove to the judge that you violated the statute. There is a good amount of case law that discusses what is and what is not reckless under the law. As such, he will have to be very specific. If you had someone in the car with you, it certainly helps because it provides another witness who can testify as to what happened. You may wish to consult with an attorney that practices that type of law and in that jurisdiction.
