Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

Can some file a ''hit and run'' charge against me?

I had a lawyer contact me saying his client claimed that I ran into his car in a parking lot. I, of course, disagree and don't remember it. But the attorney said if I didn't pay for the damage to the car they would have me arrested for leaving a scene of an accident. The lawyer said they have a witness that saw me back into the car. Again, I don't remember ever hitting any one's car, and even if I did it would have to be barely a 'touch' in a parking lot. Should I tell them to go pound sand or just pay them off to avoid hassles from the police?

Pound sand.(The lawyer should be reported to the Virginia State Bar for unethical conduct in threatening to have you arrested as a way to extort money from you and gain leverage in what cannot be more than a minor civil matter, if that.)
