Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

HOV Violation Question

I work in Tysons and never take 66 to work, I usually take back roads to 495. Today I was driving on 66 (in a non-hov lane) and took a left exit to get on 495. There were state troopers on the exit ramp pointing to cars and pulling them over. I was pulled over and given a ticket for being on an HOV ramp. Honestly, I didn't know it was an HOV ramp, I thought that was the exit for 495. The signage was really confusing. Apparently, there is a right exit as well. Should I go to court and try to fight it? It's $187 ticket. Do I stand a chance in Fairfax County?

Re: HOV Violation Question

Yes, of course, you should fight it in Fairfax Co. Traffic Court, explaining it all to the judge on the day of your hearing regarding the confusing signage, and, perhaps, she or he will see things your way on the matter and rule, accordingly.
