Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
Is it legal for the city to break something when towing my vehicle?
My vehicle was towed by the city. This truck is completely legal and up to date. There excuse for towing was because it was abandoned. It was parked at my house. There was a 20 ft antenna on the truck with a coax cable running into my window. Somehow during the process my antenna was broken and the equipment it was attached to in the house was broken as well. The towman informed me that the fire department removed the antenna. One of them also opened my bedroom window and put the broken antenna through it. The police are basically telling me I can't do anything about it. I was just wondering if what they did was legal and also who should i go to about replacing what was broken. Thank you.

Re: Is it legal for the city to break something when towing my vehicle?
It's not entirely clear from your question who or what caused the damage. If it was the private tow firm, they would be responsible.
However, if it was the fire department, then the city could be responsible.
Whether you could sue the city in small claims court for damages is a legal question for which more facts and information would be needed.
