Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
legal judgement
What happens when you have a judgement against you that you find out about it 17 years later, do you have to pay the judgement or does the statute of limitations change this?

Re: legal judgement
While there is no "statute of limitations" as to a judgment, a judgment will expire after a certain period of time. General district court judgments expire after 10 years and judgments docketed in the circuit court expire after 20 years.
Re: legal judgement
I should add that this is for judgments rendered in civil suits, not criminal matters.
Re: legal judgement
No, once the judgment has been entered in the record, it remains valid until its expiry date which could be many years in the future, and there is no statute of limitations applicability to such judgments.
