Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
License Minor driving under state curfew
My question is I have a son 17yrs old who lives with his mother at Florida state. He has a valid Florida state license. Was stopped at approximately 4:00 am in Spotsylvania Varginia, while heading to New York for a wake of a family member. He was issued several summmons for improper lane changing, tinted windows and a radar detector. He is willing to pay for the summons but from what he was told from the issueing state is that he must appear. How can this be corrected without appearring at that state? Thank you.

Re: License Minor driving under state curfew
If your son was charged with reckless driving, he cannot prepay this criminal(misdemeanor) offense; he must appear in court in order to avoid a conviction for reckless driving. (Believe it or not, an improper lane change which the officer issuing the summons regards as having been executed in a particularly egregious manner, may be cited as Reckless Driving under the Virginia Traffic Code.)
