Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
I live in Arlington and received a parking citation for 'No Valid Decal'. The catch is that I was parked in my community's garage which is private property. Is it legal for an officer to ticket me? I asked our HOA and they said, "Arlington County PD has NO authority to issue tickets on Falls Station property, as it is all private property."
Additionally, I have had my decal for some time and just haven't put it on my car. I've heard you can dispute this and they can void the ticket, but is there a way to do it without going to court. Taking time off work and paying the $60 court fee would defeat the whole purpose.
Lastly, the ticket has the wrong address. It essentially says that I was parked on the street, which obviously I was not. Any basis for disputing the ticket just based on that alone?
Thanks very much.

Yes, you should go to the parking violation office located on the first floor of the Arlington County courthouse and bring your ticket and decal with you and see if they'll void the ticket.
