motorcycle

i purchase a motorcycle from a private seller the seller sign title over to me. I went to dmv at the time to switch title over and they told me since my license was suspended at the time i can't do so. I left the bike cover in my yard since i couldn't ride it . weeks later it was stolen then recovered by the police. then they told me i can't get it back due to that fact i didn't regeisted it i shown them the title and a copy of the check and they still sold it is there any thing i can do to get my money back or something?

It may be that whichever cop told you that is very likely mistaken. After all, you were not riding an unregistered motorcycle which later was stolen off the street but one which apparently was parked on your private residential property and stolen therefrom.

It would not appear that the cops in this particular situation had the proper authority to consider your right to your motorcycle as forfeited

under these circumstances and therefore to dispose of it at auction or whatever other action they may have taken to sell it and apparently retain the proceeds of the sale for their own purposes.

I believe that one might fairly conclude that under these circumstances, it was the duty of law enforcement to return the stolen property which they had managed to recover to its rightful owner, namely you. You may wish to discuss the matter further with an attorney in your local area.
