Re: Penalties
Driving in excess of 80 miles per hour is defined as one form of reckless driving in Sec. 46.2-862 of the Virginia Motor Vehicle Code.
Racing on a public highway is, also, defined as another form of reckless driving in Sec. 46.2-865
of the same code.
All forms of reckless driving, including these, are jailable offenses and classified by the Commonwealth as Class 1 misdemeanor offenses, punishable by up to a year in jail and/or a fine not to exceed $2500.
