How far can a police officer follow you if he has a good excuse to follow you.
How far can a police officer follow you if he caught you speeding. He knows and already has reason to pull you over. Why do the sometimes follow you for more than a mile before finally pulling you over?

Hard to say, but as long as the officer keeps the suspect vehicle constantly within his or her field of view from the time of the first alleged infraction, from a legal perspective it makes little difference in terms of the defendant's ability to challenge the charge(s).
