Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
Prayer for Judgement
What is a prayer for judgement? Can I ask for one in the court and if so what does it mean? I do not have any other traffic violations. This is for a speeding ticket that was written for 37 in a 25.

Re: Prayer for Judgement
A prayer for judgment does not really have any
meaning in the context that you describe.
In a civil lawsuit, a plaintiff "moves" the
court (requests) judgment in their favor and
the summary portion of the request for judgment
is called the "prayer" asking the court to
enter judgment in the plaintiff's favor.
In general, it merely means asking the court
for something, but it is not a request or a
motion by itself. You have to have something
specific to ASK. The prayer is only the PROCESS
of ASKING.
Re: Prayer for Judgement
Forget about the"prayer for judgment". Just go talk with the prosecutor assigned to your case before court begins on the day scheduled for your hearing. You'll probably find him or her set up in a small room somewhere outside of the general district traffic courtroom itself. Other people like you will be lining up to speak with the prosecutors ensconced in this room. Whenever your turn comes to speak with the prosecutor assigned to your case, explain whatever mitigating circumstances which may apply and then find out what the Commonwealth is willing to offer you in return for your plea of guilty.
Also, if anyone suggests that you would be well advised to challenge the police officer's radar calibrations and the reading on which your ticket was based, you should ignore such advice.
