Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

Received a traffic ticket for expired registration. My husbands very ex-wife is still listed on the car title. When my husband went to renew his registration he was told their was a lien on it from past due property taxes. We knew we had paid our property taxes so we went to the treasurers office here in Virginia and they said his ex-wife owes almost $1,000 in past due property taxes and even though it has nothing to do with this vehicle since her name is on the vehicle then we can't get the registration renewed until (a) either she pays her property taxes (which is not going to happen any time soon) or (b) we pay the $5,000 balance on the car loan and have her removed from the title. She we just pay the $100 ticket or should we go to court and explain the situation to the judge. We don't want to waist our time going to court if the judge isn't going to cut us a break. Thanks.

If you're husband is listed correctly on the title to this vehicle as a co-owner,

then he's responsible for ensuring that the vehicle has up to date registration,

and therefore I doubt that the judge would be able to " cut (you) a break" in

regard to this infraction (my opinion).
