Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

I recently received a "Disregarding a Highway Sign" (No U-turn). I was waiting to make a left hand turn when my soon to be father-in-law called to let me know he was lost in Washington DC. (I placed the call on speaker phone). This was the Thursday before my wedding on Saturday. There are two no U-turn signs I was passed the first when I got the call and was in the middle of the turn when I noticed the second. My reasoning was to head back home to head back home to get on-line. As soon as I completed the turn an unmarked car pulled me over.

I plan on going to court, what are my options. I have had one violation, 2 years ago (improper lane change, 3 points) and aside from that I have a clean record. Are there any options to prevent points?

Thank you

Refuse to plead guilty to that charge and make the Commonwealth prove its case against you-----which may not be possible for a variety of reasons/factors

which might occur or become apparent during the course of the prosecution of the matter.

P.S. If the officer who ticketed you fails to appear for court for any

reason, ask for a dismissal.
