Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
I recieved a Virginia 46.2-830 ticket for "failure to observe a highway marking." This was for a sign that told me a bridge exit was in the left lane, as the road forked, but the problem was traffic was built up so far back because of a light at the bridge, that by time i saw the sign to get in the left lane, i could not merge because there were too many cars in that lane and no one would let me in. when i did finally merge towards the base of the fork (i did so safely, with a blinker and across a dotted line) a cop was waiting at the fork and pulled me over for that offense. how could i have possibly remedied this situation? is there anyway to fight this?

Yes, go to traffic court on the morning scheduled for your hearing and
explain your side of the case to whoever is representing the Commonwealth at this hearing(either assistant commonwealth's attorney or police officer) and
see whether s/he might be willing to dismiss the charge.
And, if not, then take your case before the judge.
