Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
Reckless Driving
I am from North carolina but I was stopped on I-95 North, Chesterfield county, VA. The officer received a call from another officer to help him chase a motorcycle going at 110 mph. As he was trying to catch up with the motorcycle, which passed me a few minutes earlier, he followed me and he said that I was going 102 mph. My husband and my 2 years old son were with me in the car. The officer said that he saw 102 mph on his speedometer which I told him that it makes perfect sense because he was coming from behind to catch up with me or the motorcycle. The most important thing is that he did not clocked me going 102 mph. The second officer showed up a couple of minutes later and asked a few questions about the motorcycle. Anyway, I really think that I was mistakenly identified. I was going fast but not that fast. These are my questions that I was hoping you can answer for me:
1. with a lawyer, what is the most likely outcome of my case?
2. Will I go to jail even though this is my 1st offence? and if I do, for how long? and will it be on my criminal record and prevent me from getting a job?
3. what can I do to prevent my insurance fees from doubeling? Does taking driving classes help?
Thank you for your help

Re: Reckless Driving
Reckless driving is a jailable offense in VA. It is possible that a first offender can receive jail time.
It is impossible to tell what the outcome of your case would be with a lawyer.
You DEFINITELY need counsel in your case.
Contact an attorney in the Chesterfield area immediately.
