Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

Reckless driving 83/55

I recieved a ticket for speeding 83/55 on i-64 in hampton. I was in the HOV at 5:35pm with somewaht lite traffic with nobody in front of me or to the side except a few scattered cars. On my way back from a long weekend in the mountains with my family when stopped. I didnt realize I was going that fast and I wasnt going much faster if any faster then traffic. I wasnt switching lanes or acting reckless except going over 80. I wasn't traveling that fast on any part of my trip and was fully in control of my vehicle. I saw him rolling as I passed hime and immediatly slowed down started to pull over. I used my blinker, he didnt turn his lights till about 10 secs of following and me switching to the other lane. I have made Lots of improvements to my car which would make it handle better at high speeds. I also noticed that my speedo is probly off since changing to bigger rims and tirs along with new gears. So ill be going to shop this week. I havent had any tickets since 2000 which as of my last ticket my record was -7. I'm getting my DMV record tommorrow so I know where I stand point wise. I wanted to know if I should take driver improvement class befor court. Also How can I plea this I would not like this on my driver record

Yes, it certainly cannot hurt your pending case to take a Driver Improvement Course before your case is heard in General District Traffic Court.

Any plea which you offer to the charge at issue should certainly not be to reckless driving(over 80 mph) but to some reduced speeding charge involving speeds of 74 mph or less(19 mph or less above the posted limit).
