Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
reckless driving ticket for a minor
my daughter age 16.5 got into an accident on 6 Sep in Loudoun Cty. She was driving to school when the cars in front started to slow down she wasn't in the school speed zone area yet, was slowing down doing about 20 mph, speed zone is 45mph in that area when the car in front stop short and she rear ended the car. The girl also happened to be a high school student going to the same school. All of a sudden a LC officer showed up and issued my daughter a reckless driving ticket. Is this normal for all rear end accidents to receive a ticket? no one was hurt no damage to our vehicle, some damage to the other vehicle. She has to appear in Juv & Dom court and the officer said don't worry it will probably be dropped by the judge. She is a A+ student on the National Honor Society and has no prior driving violations. What do you recommend? Also I recently attended a concert a the Belmon Country Club in Ashburn and got rear ended by someone - the guy was obnoxious to everyone trying to get out of the parking lot so when he hit me another driver said he was going to get the police. When the police officer arrived he apparently knew the guy. He produced his drivers license but his insurance card was dated 2003 -he didn't get a ticket

I recommend that your daughter have an attorney to represent her on this reckless driving charge in the J&DRDC, which is a Class 1 misdemeanor and jailable offense.
