Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
After seeing the sign prohibiting u-turn at a Virginia intersection, I made a left turn onto a residential street leading into a development and then executed the u-turn immediately on this side street (i.e. not main street which has prohibitive sign). Officer stated that still in bounds of intersection and, as such, still qualifies as a "sweeping" u-turn. Is that so ... and/or where can I get the exact definition of u-turn for Virginia? I'd just pay up but it was an honest mistake as I just arrived to DC from Germany on my first visit ... AND it's $92 (incl. "processing fee"). Thx.

I have never heard this kind of definition for a U turn, i.e., a "sweeping" turn that would take in side streets as part of the intersection prohibiting the U turn.
You might want to contest this ticket in court and explain it to the judge to see what he or she may have to say about it.
