Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
speeding ticket in a different state?
I received a speeding ticket on I-95 in VA, going 78mph in 65mph.The problem here is that I live in NC, so it would be difficult for me to go on the date of the trial. On the ticket it states that I can pay the fee, and plead guilty. If I do this, would this add insurance points on my NC license? How does it work when you get a speeding ticket out of state? Thank you for your help. Also, I haven't received a speeding ticket within the past 3 years.

Re: speeding ticket in a different state?
Yes, a conviction in virginia could increase your insurance premiums as the conviction would be reported to the north carolina DMV through a state reciprocity agreement. You have three choices - 1) prepay the ticket and accept the guilty finding, 2) appear in court on your own to contest the charge, 3) hire an attorney to represent you in court without you having to appear.
