Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

Out of State Ticket Reckless Driving

My Friend and I are from NC and were driving up through VA and while driving with traffic she got picked out for speeding. Since she was doing 85 in a 65 it was considered reckless driving. The trooper told her that she had to appear but if she called the courts and explained the situation they possilby could help out. I beleive this was in haddock county? Since we live in NC, driving back to VA isnt a best option and would be very hard to since that would be almost a 4 hour trip to meet first thing in the morning on a weekday. What are the best options? Could an attorney appear in court for her or not? Any help would be thankful

Re: Out of State Ticket Reckless Driving

Your friend can have an attorney appear on her behalf to defend the charge, or negotiate a plea arrangement. My guess is this was Halifax County, Virginia, which is along the NC border. Email me at the address below and I can provide you with the name of an attorney who practices in that area.

Your friend could try calling the court to see what arrangements might be available, but if the charge is actually reckless driving(a Class 1 misdemeanor in the Commonwealth), she will need to appear in person before the designated court on the date scheduled for her hearing.

Since Class 1 misdemeanors are also jailable offenses, your friend should also have an attorney representing her in this matter.
