Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
Suspended License
My license was suspended in 1999 due to failure to report that my car had been repossesed. I no longer have the car, but I was told that I had to pay the uninsured motorist fee of $431.I have a son with a chronic illness and can't afford to pay the fee. I stay home with him because he is often ill. Last week I was pulled over driving a friends car. They failed to tell me that the tags were expired. I was pull over and given a ticket for driving with suspended license and driving with expired tags. This is my first driving offense. I would like to know the extent of trouble that I may be in. Will I ever be able to get my license. Or what may have happened in any similar cases. Please help!

Re: Suspended License
The charge of Driving While Suspended is a jailable offense in Virginia, and you should, therefore, have a lawyer to represent you in court. If you can't afford to hire one, the court
may be able to appoint one to represent you.
Before your case comes up for trial, if at all
possible, you'll want to be able to bring to court
evidence showing that your friends have taken care
of the expired tags and that you have the required insurance.
