Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
I was given a ticket for expired registration. I renewed the registration and went to the court to show proof. I was charged 66 dollars court cost even though I never went to court. Why do I need to pay court costs?
Thank you,
Richmond VA

Au Contraire, apparently, you did enter the courthouse (by your own admission)
"to show proof" which resulted in a court cost to you of $66.00 in order to dispose of this charge against you. (The clerks, afterall, do have to do some work to clear their records to show that you're all paid up.)
