Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
Ticket - No Valid Decal
My car was parked at home and I received a ticket while it was parked in the driveway for ''NO VALID DECAL'', which means the Arlington County tax sticker was expired. I had paid the taxes 4 months ago but lost the decal before I could install it. Do I have grounds to successfully contest the ticket based on the taxes being paid or does the law state I received a ticket based on my sticker not being displayed despite my having paid the taxes? What law or precedent can I use?

Re: Ticket - No Valid Decal
No, if you paid for the current decal which was then misplaced/lost and consequently not displayed on your vehicle, you can go the county office building on Clarendon Blvd., personal property tax section on second floor and request a receipt reflecting your payment for this decal.
Then you merely go to court on the appointed date and, before your case is called, see the prosecutor in the little room across from the entrance to the traffic courtroom and show him or her the receipt and your ticket will likely be dismissed on the spot.
