Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

Traffic accident

6 months ago i had a car accident that took place at the parking lot. as it was the private territory, police officer didn't give me a report. The other lady that was involved in the accident got the information from my driver's license. The problem is that i had just bought the car from the auction and i didn't have the insurance, because i was just taking the car from that place to the house. So, now that lady's insurance company is trying to sew me (and money they're asking for is too much for the damages that lady had). I've got the court in 2 weeks. I don't know if i should get a lawyer and go to court or i should contact the company and just pay this debt. Though i don't think that accident was my fault. But as i was driving without the insurance i just don't want to get into more trouble that I'm now. P.S. Please help me

Re: Traffic accident

The fact that you were uninsured at the time of the accident should be irrelevant to the issue of who caused the accident, and if you believe that you were not at fault you should contest the plaintiff's claims in court. (And, yes, if there are substantial sums of money involved, you should have an attorney representing you.)
