Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

Uninsured Driver - Virginia

My son is 19 and had an accident...fortunately no one was hurt but he was uninsured at the time (his insurance was cancelled for non-payment last month). What penalties can he expect at the court date? He was charged with 1) hit and run - because he pulled onto a side street to allow traffic to keep moving (this was noted on the citation) - as did the driver he rear-ended; 2) Reckless driving and 3) Failure to pay the uninsured motorist fee. His car (a 1990 Nissan 240) was damaged badly, the other driver's rather large SUV appeared to have only minor damage to the bumper. He has only been licensed for a few months and has no other tickets/accidents. Should he hire a lawyer? Thank you.

Re: Uninsured Driver - Virginia

Your son needs a competent criminal defense counsel

to represent him on these various charges and to minimize the possible adverse consequences of a conviction on one or more of them. (Charges 1 & 2 are both criminal offenses.)
