Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

my wife was given a ticket today, they had some kind of sting for people running red lights....she was making a turn and the light was green, wwhile she was in the intersection the traffic had backed up and the light turned yellow and then red...the cop who seen this was on a hand held radio and called another cop who pulled her over down the street...i am wondering if any of this has merit...does the cop who seen this have the right to call another cop, and i am sure in virginia law once you are in the interesection if it was green it is legal, or should you back up??? just asking thanks

No, backing up in an intersection can often be more dangerous than

simply proceeding on through.

Yes, of course, one cop can always call another for whatever reason, but that doesn't mean that the ticket under these facts was justified or that your wife should not contest it in court.
