I received a speeding ticket in Virginia for going 84 in a 65 mph zone and I was charged with wreckless driving what are the penalties for being charged with wreckless driving and what do you recomend that I do regarding this ticket.

Reckless driving is punishable by a maximum of 12 months in jail and a $2500 fine. Because this is considered a misdemeanor, it will appear on your criminal background check when applying for a job or security clearance. In addition, the judge could suspend your driver's license for up to 6 months. You may also see a significant rise in insurance rates. Reckless driving is a crime in the Commonwealth(Class 1 misdemeanor)and not merely a traffic infraction and therefore you should have an attorney representing you to ensure that you emerge from this situation with minimum consequences.

If you cannot afford to hire such defense counsel on your own, you should request that the court having jurisdiction over the matter appoint one to represent you.
