beneficiary of will

Can the executor be a major beneficiary of a will? I live in Virginia.

Yes, such could be possible (particularly in situations where there is only one beneficiary named in the will who is also designated as the executor of that will.

Absolutely. And that is often the case in wills I prepare, since the probate process is greatly simplified if the same people who are residuary beneficiaries are also executors.

In that event the probate process is reduced to submitting an affidavit to the Commissioner of Accounts stating that all the bills have been paid and the estate fully distributed (when that has been done); no detailed accounting of every penny in and every penny out.
