Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

I have cancer and a few months ago a situation arose where I thought I should talk with a finacial advisor with questions on leaving my estate to my children. The financial advisor thought we should talk to a lawyer because he thought we needed to cover all situations. At no time was there ever any mention about a fee being involved, not even to the Financail Advisor who set up the appointment. A couple days ago I got a bill bill for services rendered by the lawyer. Can he do this?

Sure, if you consumed this lawyer's time and received his advice, and who apparently reasonably assumed that this financial advisor who set up the appointment had explained to you that you would have to pay for it.
