Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

Confused about will and my rights as beneficiary

My cousin was left as executor of my mothers estate and I was to be the beneficiary. As executor does my cousin owe me an explanation of the will? Also the life insurance policy was left to me, at the time of my mothers death I was unemployed and going through a personal crisis, I was not finacially able to pay for her funeral. I was told that the insurance money was to be used for that. I was handed the check to sign and that was the last I saw of it. I have not seen any of the money. I asked what became of it and was told that it went to pay outstanding debts that my mother had. Is this acceptable? I feel that I have been cheated out of what was rightfully mine. There was also a vehicle that was specifically left to me, it was joint owned by my mother and her sister who passed away before she did, Her daughter paid off 500.00 that my aunt owned on the vehicle after her death, and sent a letter relinquishing any claim to the vehicle, we had that letter notorized. She now claims that I owe her the 500.00 is this the case? Both of these cousins are wealthy and really do not need the money, I on the other hand do. I feel like I am being railroaded and badgered what can I do?

Re: Confused about will and my rights as beneficiary

It would appear to me, Sir (or Ma'm), that taking

all of the facts into consideration as you've outlined them here in your inquiry, that you received about what you deserved out of this situation, and perhaps, even a little more than that. (After all, being, apparently, in penury at the time of her decease, you managed to escape responsibility for having to pay for your mother's funeral.)
