Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

no designated beneficiary

Hello,

this is my 2nd marriage and it is also my husbands 2nd marriage. I recently discovered that my husband has 4 secret bank accounts and no beneficiaries on them. He has 3 grown children and I don't have any. If he were to die, who would get this money?

Thanks,

Erin

Re: no designated beneficiary

If your husband were to die with no will and no beneficiaries named on these accounts, you, as his surviving spouse, would likely be entitled to 1/3 of the assets in his estate, including those in these so-called "secret accounts".
