Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

estate of a deceased person

I was named as the beneficiary of a siblings' life insurance. One of his debtors wants me to pay the remaining balance of his account from the proceeds of the insurance on the grounds that it is part of his estate. Is this true? Are the funds legally mine or truely part of his estate?

Re: estate of a deceased person

No, it is not true; life insurance proceeds typically pass to the named beneficiary outside of the probate of an estate.
