Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia
Estate ''Release and Consent'' Form
My wife's Canadian aunt died and left her some money. The executor, who appears to be a man of high integrity but whom we don't know very well, has asked my wife to sign a ''Release and Consent'' form which includes the line ''I approve this statement and waive the formal passing of accounts.''
The law firm involved stated a month ago that they were going to check the executor's accounting, but we never received anything from them saying that this had been accomplished.
Is it prudent to just sign the form as things stand now or should we ask for some reassurance that the law firm has gone through the accounts and found them to be correct?
Thank you.

Re: Estate ''Release and Consent'' Form
Yes, of course, as a presumed beneficiary, your wife certainly has a right to request such evidence that any problems with the accounting of the estate assets have been properly resolved before signing any such waiver statement as you've described.
