Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

Estates Law

My Mother-in-law left her home to be divided between her son and daughter. Her home needed to be sold to pay the bills left at the time of her death. The house was in horrible shape and had to practically be rebuilt. My husband and I have been working on this very involved project every weekend and one night a week for over a year. His sister may have worked 3 days. When the house is sold and the bills paid, my husband will get half of what is left over and his sister will get the other half. My question : Is it unethical or against the law for me , the son's wife, to be paid by the estate for all the hours and work I have put into this project? It would be a fixed price agreed upon by all concerned parties. Thank you for your time and help with my question.

Sincerely,

Edie

Re: Estates Law

No, of course not, if all the concerned parties agree that you should be compensated for your time and efforts from estate funds.
