Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia
Executor
If the executor of a will is an attorney, does he have the right to dispose of personal belongings and not give beneficiaries a chance to buy them. The deceased specifically asked that her belongings be sold. The executor/attorney had the apartment cleaned out and has stored the furniture but will not answer letters as to me (a beneficiary) being able to purchase some of the furniture. He listed the furniture on his inventory as $3000, but I understand if any one piece is worth $500 or more he has to itemize it. Can he just list $3000 and keep the furniture for himself? These are antiques and he has 2 houses full of antiques.

Re: Executor
With this kind of dispute, your best approach is quite likely to write a letter to the commissioner of accounts who is charged by law with overseeing the probate of the estate and request a hearing on the matter.
