Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

I have my father's POA, it has a sentence in it that says I can pledge his real estate, does that mean I could use his POA to go on his son (my brother's) bond? The local magistrate says my father has to be present and sign, so what good does a POA do an elderly disabled person if the state says it's unacceptable as a means to go on an individuals bond.

Perhaps, there's some language in the POA which the magistrate interprets as limiting your power to pledge the property for the particular purpose of providing a bond for your brother.
