Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

Federal Indentification Number

My Mother passed away and I am the executor of her will. She only had about $3,000 in the bank and her house. I sold her house last Wed., as the executor of the property. When signing the closing papers, there was one paper that I was told to sign showing that I had rec'd a settlement statement and it had a place for seller's ID Number. I was told to put my S.S. number..right above that it showed Fedural Indentification Number. Did I need to have one or was my S.S. number okay? The house sold for $124,000, when charges were taken from it, the cash rec'd was $108,666.64. My brother and I are joint heirs to the estate. Do I have to file any tax papers, or get a Federal Identification number, if so how do I do this? Any help given will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Federal Indentification Number

No, you were told right; for this type of transaction your SS number should be quite sufficient.
