Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

My grandmother just passed away and there are several children. One has made their self the beneficary of life insurance and executor of an estate inheratince. Can she claim all monies that would belong to my grandmother, or do the living children have say if she has stated they get nothing in the the will?
