Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

What happens to lease in the event of death

My parents cosigned on my original lease. I have since renewed it, but i'm assuming they're still on there since it is essentially the same document with different dates on it. My question is if I die before the expiration of the lease, will my parents have to pay my rent for the remainder of the lease period, even if nobody is living in the apartment? I have no assets and a great deal of other debt on which they are not cosigners (student loans).

Yes, your parents could conceivably be responsible

for the balance owed unless there is a provision in the lease which releases them from liability upon the demise of the primary leaseholder(you).
