I got a letter today it was a notice regarding estate, stating that I am the heir at law if my great grandfathers will what does that mean exactly?

It means that your great grandfather has died and that he had a will. It does not necessarily mean that you will receive anything from his estate. When a will is probated, the first thing the executor has to do is notify all heirs at law of the probate. For details, you can consult the person who sent the notice, and can likely get a copy of the will.
