Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

power of attorney

My aunt (97) has been in a nursing home for the past year. An aunt, by marriage, has her power of attorney and is telling us she had to sell my aunt's house to pay for the nursing home and there is no money in my aunt's estate when she dies. She maintains that Social Security would help with none of this. How can I found out more and is she obligated to give an accounting to heirs of what she spent the funds on?

Re: power of attorney

Better check with an attorney who's familiar with so-called elder law issues(including estates and wills) and the recent changes in state medicaid laws, particularly with regard to the so-called "look back period" as it may have impacted your aunt's medicaid eligibilty in the particular state wherein she currently resides.
